Smart food choices mean healthy baby and healthy mom

You may crave soft drinks and snack foods, but those empty calories add up to a lot of extra weight you don't need, and zero nutrition for your baby. Choosing the right foods will help you feel and be healthy, and help your baby grow.

Avoid:

  • Alcohol
  • Raw meat, poultry and fish
  • Fish with high mercury levels, such as shark, tilefish, swordfish or king mackerel. You can eat up to 12 oz. of tuna per week
  • High caffeine intake
  • Soft cheeses, such as brie or feta

Check out the daily requirements for each food group. Learn about vitamins and minerals.
