Emergency situations

Call your doctor right away if you experience:

Bleeding

  • If you have vaginal bleeding, call your doctor right away
  • A large gush or steady stream of blood means call 911
    • Get help immediately
    • Lie on your side and put your feet higher than your head
    • Save the pads and cloths you use to catch the blood. This will help the emergency team know how much bleeding has occurred

Water breaks early

  • Although the rupture of the bag of waters around the baby may mean labor is about to begin, sometimes the bag ruptures prematurely
  • If you notice a gush or a steady trickle of clear fluid, call your doctor
  • Note any color or smell that might be present in the fluid
  • Save any pads or cloths and bring them with you to the hospital

Severe stomach pain

  • If you experience constant, severe pain (with or without contractions) that does not go away when you change positions, call your doctor

Any specific signs or symptoms your doctor has told you to watch for
